Cayenne Pepper, which is the active ingredient in capsicum crème is highly potent and highly effective. The exact reason why cayenne works is not known, but it has been proven to interfere with our pain perception and trigger the release of pain relieving endorphins. You can use a marketed crème, or you can take a red pepper and smash it up and spread it on the area which is in pain. You can also place a small amount in a white skin crème (such as cold crème) until the mixture turns pink. Do not ingest any of these concoctions, and make sure you wash your hands thoroughly after applying!
Willow Bark has been used for more than 2400 years to relieve pain! The active ingredient in willow bark (salicin) is used in the production of aspirin. These, along with other anti-inflammatory agents are what make willow bark effective in pain relief.
Ginger has been used for centuries in China and India to relieve pain. To use, take a thumb sized piece of ginger root and boil it in a quart of water (slice into thin slices first). After it comes to a boil, simmer at the lowest heat setting for half an hour in a covered pot. Let the mixture cool and drink as a tea. You can also add honey to sweeten it, if you’d like.
There are a myriad of other herbal treatments available, but these ones seem to be highly effective. Taking Epsom salt baths, drinking rosemary tea, and warm, moist herbal packs also help reduce the pain and discomfort.
