Colds and Flu’s Home Remedies

Cold and flu season happens every year. Pharmaceutical companies make billions off of us poor souls, merely trying to find a little comfort. But there are lots of things you can do to help fight off and "treat" a cold or flu!

Sometimes, doing nothing is the answer! A fever indicates your body is fighting the infection. As long as it’s not a life threatening fever- take it as a good sign! Coughing and sneezing are your body’s way of getting rid of germs and excess mucus!

Blow your nose the "right" way. Gently hold one nostril closed and blow gently, then do the other side. Blowing as hard as you can, can cause blood vessels to pop, and sinus infections to start!

This one stings, but it works! Make a concoction of saltwater and a dab of baking soda in a glass of warm water. Squirt the mixture into your nose. After it drains, repeat it 3 more times, then do the other side. Keep tissue nearby for quite some time though, as your nose will be very runny for the next hour or so! Gargling Salt water will help kill bacteria in your throat and sinuses! .

Eat infection fighting foods. Foods such as bananas, bell peppers, blueberries, carrots, cranberries, and onions all help fight infection.
Make a tea out of hot water, lemon and honey and it will help soothe your sore throat. Other good teas include Chamomile and peppermint!
Also drinking orange juice or other vitamin C products will help fight infections also!

Don’t forget- when you are sick, you need rest! So get plenty of it! Your body does most of its healing while you are sleeping – so go take a nap!
