Shame, shame…all the fun and drinks last night, and now you feel like an 18 wheeler hit you center on and pushed you into the asphalt for five too many miles. Your eyes hurt (someone turn off the sun, please) your head hurts (stop breathing so loudly) and you ache all over. While you won’t find any sympathy from me (hey- you’re the one hung over, not me!) I will share some tricks to help you feel more human. First things first – go take a shower!
Once you’ve showered the stench of alcohol off, you can begin your search for some sort of cure. Willow bark is a nice alternative to aspirin. The chemical salicylate is released as you chew on it. There’s nothing like a cup of water with your willow bark! Drinking dehydrates you and you need to replace the water as soon as possible!
Make a broth of bouillon cubes. It will help replace the salt and potassium your body loses when you drink.
Coffee Please! A couple of good strong cups of coffee will help constrict the blood vessels, resulting in a minimization of the headache that is so torturing!
Time for breakfast! Your body loses a lot of nutrients when you drink. So be sure to eat a good breakfast ( as soon as you feel it will stay down). Make sure there is a banana (potassium) and some whole grain products (complex carbs) on the plate!
And the best thing to do (aside from abstaining the next time you’re offered a drink) – let time heal. In 24 hours or less, you’ll feel like yourself again!
Let time heal. The best and only foolproof cure for a hangover, of course, is 24 hours. Treat your symptoms as best you can. Get a good night's sleep and the next day—hopefully—all will be forgotten.
