an Eye Stye Home Remedies

Eye Stye is an infection of the hair follicle of an eyelash. A pimple like thing appears at the eyelid, which can be visible at outside as well as inside of eyelid. Since it is caused by bacteria, you can get more than one at a time. These can not only be annoying, but painful as well. While you never, ever want to "pop" a stye (it can spread the infection), there are things you can do to help it heal.

Guava leaves, warmed and placed on a warm damp cloth, and then used as a compress; reduce the redness, pain and swelling.

Take 1 teaspoon of turmeric in 2 cups of water until it reduces in half. Cool and strain 4-5 times through cheesecloth. Apply as eye drops 3-4 times a day.

Boil 1 tsp of coriander seeds in a cup of water. Use this to wash the eyes 3-4 times a day.
Make paste with potato, spread it on a cloth and apply it externally on inflamed eyes to reduce swelling.

Avoid excessive intake of starchy and sugary foods.

Styes can spread from an infected person to other members of the family. So be sure not to share eyewashes, pillows, or other items that come into hand/ eye contact with the infected eye. This is one reason to try and avoid touching the stye!
